Some of us have spacious, Pinterest-worthy laundry rooms, and some of us have something that is just a slight step above functional. And while I am extremely grateful that I have a laundry room at all, mine falls in the second category where the square footage is a bit lacking. And up until recently, I literally had to back myself out of the laundry room after hanging everything on my drying rack because there wasn’t enough room for both the rack and even one person.
If I was single or didn’t have any kids, this would only present a slight inconvenience, but I have four kids, and they all wear clothes. Every. Day.
The Problem
As you can imagine, we are in and out of the laundry room quite often. Not to mention, my son plays hockey, and he kept dominating the drying rack every time his hockey gear needed to air dry, so I constantly had to get creative and figure out where to hang the laundry that needed to air dry.
Do you have a similar problem? Not only is your collapsible drying rack susceptible to falling over, but there is literally no place to put it in your laundry room! And who wants to put the drying rack anywhere else but the laundry room?! It’s a bit of an eye-sore if you ask me.
Great news, my friend. It doesn’t have to be this way anymore!
The Solution
I want to introduce you to my latest love. It’s a total laundry room game changer and life simplifier. Since floor space was at a premium in our laundry room, my husband and I wanted to get the drying rack up off the floor and onto the wall. After a brief search on Amazon and looking through the various design options for a wall-mounted drying rack, we decided to give this one a try.
Measuring 23″W x 42″H x 2.25″D, there are seven racks which open up to about 20 degrees, which is helpful if you’re needing to mount yours next to cabinets (like ours). When in use, we have full access to one cabinet and can still push up the rack just enough if we really need to get something out of the left cabinet. And if it fits your laundry room better, you can order a smaller version of this rack from the same company.
Why I Love this Wall-Mounted Drying Rack So Much
After using this wall-mounted drying rack for just a few weeks, I can easily see why it got the Amazon’s Choice designation! First of all, it allowed us to reclaim the floor space, so it solved the problem, and now we can freely move in and out of the laundry room. Secondly, it holds about the same amount of clothes as my previous rack did, and I love that I can easily retract the rack when I’m finished with it. We also discovered that we can even hang dry clothes on it in the closed position if we need a quick place to put them and don’t have any hangers nearby. And probably my favorite feature of all is that it looks nice hanging on the wall, almost decorative, and it matches my style, which is an added bonus. 🙂
And if I haven’t convinced you yet, I should also mention that it was easy to mount, and in my opinion, a good value for the price. Compared to the other designs for a wall-mounted drying rack, I think it legitimately looks nice, while most of the other ones have a more industrial feel. Not that you have to have a chic and decorated laundry room, but if you have a choice, why not go with the one with more style?
Nearly Perfect Solution, but…
The only downside I’ve noticed about this rack is that you have to make sure to pull on the rack towards the top because if you pull on it too far down, the unit starts to separate from the wall since it’s only mounted at the top. You have to give it a good pull because it’s magnetic, but as long as you pull on it far enough up, it works perfectly fine. All in all, the benefits far outweigh this minor shortcoming.
I love to find products that solve real-life problems, and this wall-mounted drying rack has accomplished exactly that! Not only have I been able to reclaim valuable floor space in the laundry room, I actually have places to hang dry our laundry. And as an added bonus, we no longer have hockey gear drying in the dining room! So if you are losing your sanity trying to make space to hang your clothes, I highly encourage you to give this laundry rack a shot. You just might find yourself doing a happy dance every time you enter your laundry room!
