Trying to figure out which twin stroller to buy? Believe me, I know how overwhelming it can be. Much like the cereal aisle, there are way too many options, but unlike the cereal aisle, most of the options are not cheap, and you can’t just try a new flavor the following week if you don’t like the one you picked out.
I promise not to overwhelm you with double stroller options. In fact, this isn’t really a comparative review post at all. I am simply going to share our recommended twin strollers, tell you why we loved them, and give you a few things to think about as you try to decide on the best stroller for your growing family.
I do have some good news for you though.
You don’t have to take out a second mortgage just to fund the purchase of your twin stroller. These recommended twin strollers are some of the cheapest options out there, and we have been beyond satisfied with each one. We never felt like we were missing out on anything or that we had to compromise quality or features. So let’s get to it!
#1 Baby Trend Universal Double Snap-N-Go Stroller Frame
In my post on 12 Essential Items to Simplify Life with Baby or Twins, I highly recommended this stroller. For the infant stage, it is an absolute necessity. A lifesaver. A life simplifier. A non-negotiable. It’s affordable. And awesome. You can get it on Amazon or through other major retailers, and it fits most car seats (hence the name, “universal.”)
It is a stroller frame, which means it is very light since it doesn’t have any actual seats in it. You simply snap your car seats directly into it, so you don’t have to unbuckle and buckle your babies from car seat to stroller. It folds up very compact, and it opens and closes easily. Regarding size, we have a GMC Acadia, and we can fit it behind our third row of seats, even with the seats in the upright position. It has two cupholders, which I consider a necessity, but many strollers don’t have them.
I also loved this stroller because it is a tandem design, which makes getting through doors a bit more manageable. As you read on, you’ll notice that the other twin stroller recommendations are side-by-side designs, however, for this stage and purpose, I think the tandem design works well. Since your babies will be so young while you’re using this stroller, it’s not as important they be able to interact while in the stroller. One last thing that I really appreciated about this stroller is the large basket underneath for storage. We used and relied on that space all the time.
We couldn’t have been more pleased with this stroller. In fact, I would have happily paid even more for that stroller had we needed to! Once our twins outgrew their infant carriers, and thus, the stroller, we easily sold it at a garage sale, making some of the money back that we had spent on it in the first place. Can we say Twinning?! 😉
#2 Kolcraft Cloud Plus Lightweight Double Stroller
Once our twins outgrew their car seats and winter was finally over, we graduated them to a lightweight side-by-side stroller that we primarily kept in the back of the car. This was the stroller that was used for running errands, dropping off at preschool, going to church, and going places like the zoo, but not necessarily the ideal stroller for going on walks (see next paragraph).
I absolutely love this stroller as well! Because we don’t have a ton of space in the back of our car, we were looking for something a little smaller, and I wanted something lighter than a jogging stroller, so it would be easy to get in and out of the car.
A lot of the twin strollers can get pretty heavy, so this is definitely an important consideration! (And in case you’re wondering, we are able to fit this stroller behind our third row of seats in the upright position, as well as by sliding it in lengthwise if we have one of the seats folded down.)
Probably my favorite feature of this stroller is the fact that it easily fits through one door. You do not have to open up both doors when entering a building. Every time someone would run ahead or come back to hold a door open for me, I would always get a kick out of them trying to open up both doors for me, and then I would proudly tell them that I could fit through one door.
Another thing that I really loved about this stroller was its turning radius. I mean, it can turn on a dime! Easily. It was so much easier to maneuver in tight spaces than the tandem stroller. And you want to know one of the biggest selling points of this stroller…cupholders! This stroller has six total cupholder – two for each baby and two up top for mom or dad.
This stroller also has some pretty robust canopies that are large and provide good shade for your babies. The only downside is that they don’t adjust back and forth like some strollers do. Another feature that I consider a non-negotiable is a handlebar, as opposed to two handles on the sides, because that allows you to free up one hand when necessary while still pushing the stroller. And you can hang a diaper bag from it as well.
This stroller is one of the cheapest lightweight double strollers you can find (not counting umbrella strollers), and the funny thing is I had never even heard of this brand before. But oh, am I glad we decided to give this unknown-to-me brand a shot! I have been thrilled with this stroller, and it’s hard to imagine anything much better.
#3 Baby Trend Navigator Double Jogger Stroller
The first Baby Trend jogging stroller we purchased was for our son about eight years ago. We bought the single version, and it’s still in great shape to this day. I have used that stroller a lot for both walks and jogs with my son and then my daughter four years later.
I say all of that because that was what prompted us to buy the twin version, specifically the Navigator model, all these years later when we found ourselves in need of a twin jogging stroller. When we bought the first one, it was purely a financial decision. It was the cheapest jogger on the market, so we bought it. We didn’t even consider any other brands.
This time around, we briefly considered other brands, but yet again, the Baby Trend jogging strollers were some of the most affordable, and we felt confident that the double version would be just as high quality as the single version had been. And we were right.
I know I keep saying this, but I have really loved this stroller as well! It is absolutely a high quality stroller for such an affordable price. To be fair, I have not tried any of the other more expensive brands, but I can’t imagine they could be much better than the Baby Trend Navigator. And even if they are better, how much better? Some of the other brands are upwards of $600. I assure you, you don’t need to spend that much money on any stroller. That is just pure insanity to me. But alas, that is only my opinion.
As for the Navigator, I love it for other reasons than just the price tag. One fun feature about it is that it has a little speaker by the handlebar, and you can plug in your phone and listen to music or a podcast or whatever as you’re walking.
There is also a snack tray and six cupholders – two each for the twins and two up top by the handlebar. These come in quite handy as we will frequently give our twins their snack in the stroller. It has adjustable canopies too, which is nice for when you’re out walking or jogging since the sun isn’t always at the same angle.
As much as I love this stroller, I would not recommend it as your primary stroller for a few reasons. First, it’s pretty heavy! The few times that I have loaded it in the car remind me that it’s best suited for leaving in the garage for walks and jogs. Also, we have to take off the back wheels in order to get it to fit in the back of our car. It’s possible, but quite cumbersome, so we generally only use this stroller for neighborhood walks and jogs.
So… as you can see, we have loved each of these double strollers tremendously, and they have been exactly what we’ve needed for different reasons at different stages with our twins. With each stroller, I explained the reasons why we loved them and what features we thought were important, but now I want to share a few questions you can ask yourself to help you make your decision.
Things to Consider When Choosing Your Double Stroller
#1 How compact is the stroller when folded up, and will it fit in the back of your car?
#2 Similarly, how much does it weigh, and can you easily load it in and out of your car?
#3 How easily can it be collapsed/folded for storage or transporting?
#4 Does it have cupholders? Like I said, I consider this a non-negotiable, but if you don’t think they’re essential, then you’ll at least need a diaper bag with several cup/bottle holders that are easily accessible.
#5 Does it have a handlebar, or does it have a handles on the sides, requiring you to push with two hands? I’m telling you, there are going to be times when you will need to push the stroller with one hand, and if the stroller doesn’t have a handlebar, you won’t be able to! You already don’t have enough hands as it is, why make it even harder on yourself?!
# 6 Does it have adequate storage underneath?
# 7 Can your twins interact with one another in the seating arrangement? Tandem strollers are fine for those early months, but once they are used to interacting with one another, I think a side-by-side stroller is a better option.
Hopefully these stroller recommendations and questions to consider have been helpful. I wish you the best in your stroller search, and remember, you don’t have to spend a small fortune or take out a loan to purchase your twin stroller!
